Overview

Asset integrity is the ability of an asset to perform its required function effectively and efficiently while protecting health, safety and the environment, and in oil and gas it is the foundation of both safe operation and long-term value. ISO 55000 provides the framework for managing physical assets as a coordinated system, linking corporate objectives to the daily decisions of maintenance, inspection and operations. This course combines the two perspectives. Participants learn the principles and requirements of ISO 55000, 55001 and 55002, and how asset management plans, life cycle costing and risk-based decisions fit together. They then apply these ideas to integrity management: safety-critical elements, performance standards, inspection and maintenance strategies, integrity operating windows, ageing assets and life extension. The course closes with how to measure integrity performance, report it to management and build a roadmap towards a mature asset management system.

Objectives

  • Explain the principles and requirements of ISO 55000, 55001 and 55002
  • Link organisational objectives to asset management plans
  • Apply risk-based and life cycle cost thinking to asset decisions
  • Identify safety-critical elements and define performance standards
  • Integrate inspection, maintenance and operations into one integrity system
  • Manage ageing assets and life extension
  • Measure and report asset integrity performance
  • Assess asset management maturity and plan improvements

Who should attend

Asset integrity, maintenance, inspection and reliability engineers and managers, technical authorities, operations managers and staff involved in implementing ISO 55001.

Training methodology

Concepts are applied throughout to a case study gas processing facility with a mix of new and ageing equipment. Participants build a line of sight from company objectives to an asset management plan, identify safety-critical elements, draft performance standards and compare maintenance options using life cycle cost. A maturity self-assessment against ISO 55001 is completed in groups. Real integrity failures are reviewed to show how gaps in the system led to incidents.
