Overview

Reservoirs are managed well when geoscience, reservoir engineering, production, drilling, facilities and economics work as one team with shared data and shared goals. When these disciplines work in silos, fields suffer from early water breakthrough, unbalanced injection, missed infill targets and facilities that limit production. This course presents integrated reservoir management as a practical process across the life of a field, from discovery through plateau and decline to late-life and EOR. Participants learn how to set reservoir management objectives, build and use integrated static and dynamic models, plan appraisal and data acquisition, and design development options. The course then covers surveillance planning, voidage replacement and pressure maintenance, well and reservoir performance reviews, production optimisation, uncertainty and decision analysis, and economic evaluation of development plans. Gulf and international field examples show what successful integrated management looks like in practice.

Objectives

  • Explain the principles and life cycle of integrated reservoir management
  • Define reservoir management objectives and strategies
  • Plan appraisal, data acquisition and surveillance programmes
  • Integrate static and dynamic models in field development decisions
  • Manage pressure maintenance, injection and voidage replacement
  • Conduct well and reservoir performance reviews
  • Evaluate development options under uncertainty

Who should attend

Reservoir, production and petroleum engineers, geoscientists, asset team leaders and managers involved in field development and reservoir management.

Training methodology

The course is built around a multidisciplinary case study of an oil field with water injection. Teams of mixed disciplines review data, identify performance problems, design a surveillance plan and propose development options, which are evaluated with simple models and economics. Each day adds new data, mimicking the evolution of a real field. Real reservoir management case histories are discussed for lessons, and teams present their integrated plan to a mock management panel on the last day.
