Overview
This five-day course covers the core concepts and calculations of reservoir engineering, from rock and fluid properties to volumetrics, material balance, well performance and production forecasting. Through practical exercises and field examples, participants learn how reservoir engineering supports reserves estimation and field development decisions.
Objectives
- Explain porosity, permeability, saturation, wettability and capillary pressure
- Interpret relative permeability curves and their impact on recovery
- Use PVT properties of oil and gas in engineering calculations
- Estimate STOIIP and GIIP volumetrically and understand reserves classification
- Identify reservoir drive mechanisms
- Apply the material balance equation to oil and gas reservoirs
- Analyse well inflow performance and apply decline curve analysis
- Understand the role of simulation and surveillance in reservoir management
Who should attend
Reservoir, petroleum and production engineers, geologists and geophysicists working with reservoir teams, and technical staff who need a practical grounding in reservoir engineering.
Training methodology
Instructor-led sessions, worked examples, spreadsheet-based exercises, field case studies, group work and a final assessment.
