Overview

Many national and international energy companies are moving from older ERP systems to SAP S/4HANA, and the change affects how finance, supply chain, maintenance and operations staff work every day. People who understand how the system fits together can make the transition faster and get far more value from it. This course gives a clear overview of SAP S/4HANA as it is used in oil, gas and power companies, without assuming any previous SAP experience. Participants learn the architecture and the in-memory HANA database, navigation in SAP Fiori, the organisational structure, and the core modules: finance and controlling, materials management, plant maintenance, sales and distribution and production planning. The course follows end-to-end business processes, such as procure-to-pay and maintenance work order to cost, to show how data flows between modules, and closes with the main points of a migration project and the industry solutions for energy.

Objectives

  • Describe the architecture of SAP S/4HANA and what changed from ECC
  • Navigate the system using SAP Fiori apps
  • Explain the organisational structure and master data
  • Follow the main business processes across modules
  • Understand how maintenance, procurement and finance are integrated
  • Identify the key decisions in an S/4HANA migration
  • Use reports and analytics for daily decisions
  • Recognise industry-specific SAP solutions for oil and gas

Who should attend

Engineers, planners, finance, procurement and operations staff, project team members and managers in energy companies that use or are moving to SAP S/4HANA. No previous SAP knowledge is required.

Training methodology

The course combines explanation with guided practice on an SAP S/4HANA training system. Participants log in, navigate Fiori apps and follow complete transactions, such as creating a purchase requisition through to invoice and a maintenance order through to settlement. Process maps show how each step updates other modules. Discussions draw on participants' own systems and migration experiences, and short quizzes at the end of each day reinforce the key concepts.
