Overview

In most energy companies, SAP Plant Maintenance holds the record of every asset, every failure and every maintenance dollar spent. When it is set up and used well, it drives planning, reliability analysis and cost control; when it is used poorly, it fills with incomplete notifications and orders that nobody can learn from. This course teaches maintenance staff how to use SAP PM effectively in an S/4HANA environment. Participants learn how technical objects are structured, how notifications and work orders move through their life cycle, how preventive maintenance plans and task lists are built, and how materials, services, labour and costs are captured. The course also covers catalogues and failure coding, which are essential for reliability analysis, together with reporting, KPIs and the connection between SAP PM and planning and scheduling tools. Exercises are based on typical oil and gas maintenance scenarios.

Objectives

  • Build and navigate functional locations, equipment and bills of materials
  • Create and process maintenance notifications with correct failure coding
  • Manage work orders from planning to technical completion and settlement
  • Set up task lists and preventive maintenance plans
  • Capture materials, services, labour and costs on orders
  • Use SAP PM reports and KPIs for maintenance decisions

Who should attend

Maintenance planners and schedulers, maintenance engineers and supervisors, reliability engineers, storekeepers and SAP key users in maintenance departments.

Training methodology

Most of the course is hands-on in an SAP S/4HANA training system. Participants build a small asset hierarchy for a pump station, raise notifications for realistic faults, plan and execute work orders, and set up a time-based and a performance-based maintenance plan. Each exercise is reviewed against good practice, with attention to data quality. The final session uses standard reports to analyse maintenance history and costs for the assets created during the week.
