Overview
This five-day training course introduces the fundamental principles of drilling engineering, covering well planning, subsurface pressure analysis, casing and cementing design, drilling fluids, hydraulics, and directional drilling. The programme combines engineering concepts with practical calculations and field-based case studies to develop participants' understanding of safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling operations.
Objectives
- Understand drilling rig systems and well construction processes
- Prepare a preliminary well plan based on geological and operational data
- Interpret pore pressure and fracture gradient profiles
- Identify appropriate casing setting depths and understand casing design principles
- Develop a basic drilling fluid programme
- Perform fundamental drilling hydraulics and bit optimisation calculations
- Understand directional drilling principles and trajectory control
- Recognise common drilling problems and their preventive measures
Who should attend
Junior drilling engineers, graduate engineers, geologists, completion engineers, and oilfield professionals seeking to establish or strengthen their foundational knowledge of drilling engineering.
Training methodology
Instructor-led technical sessions, worked engineering calculations, practical field examples, case studies from drilling operations, group exercises, technical discussions, and a final assessment.
